Arcade Racer · Godot Engine
Kart Mart
Fast, snappy, and chaotic arcade kart racing built natively in Godot. Engineered around tight drifting physics, high-speed cornering, and instant pick-up-and-play arcade fun.
Early sandbox handling test: evaluating turning radiuses, chassis weight distribution, and momentum preservation when cutting corners.
The Godot Spark: From an IBP Alternative to an Arcade Racer
When childhood friend Jayson Morales suggested checking out the Godot Engine for Invasion of the Burmese Python, I was already way too deep in Unreal Engine 5 to pivot the studio's flagship production. Jayson didn't pitch any game concepts, but his mention of Godot as an alternative engine got me curious about what the technology could do.
To test the engine myself, I designed and coded an original arcade kart racer from scratch: Kart Mart. Godot delivered instantaneous iteration loops, razor-sharp GDScript physics, and 120 FPS arcade responsiveness with zero cinematic bloat.
Tactile Drift Snapping
Tuned for immediate tactile satisfaction. Pitch the kart sideways, build sparks along the tire rim, and slingshot through chicanes with zero input delay.
Godot Lightness
Boots in seconds, runs effortlessly on low-power hardware, and delivers high-framerate arcade response. Demonstrates the studio's multi-engine adaptability.
90s Arcade Kart DNA
Heavily influenced by the golden age of split-screen 90s kart titles. Built by a lifelong gamer who spent thousands of hours mastering power slides, hop boosts, and cutting corners on battle modes.
